Haunting, swirling, minimalist and progressive at the same time, Richmond, VA'sBEARSTORM and their album Americanus retains the oft-mocked "grim and frostbitten" vibe while simultaneously expanding into infinite horizons. An hypnotic and harshly beautiful, tantalizing, mesmerizing progressive Black Death Metal swirl.
Their first release on Grimoire RecordsBEARSTORM Americanus, spans 36 minutes and blends the "progressive inclinations of heavier post-rock with the acid spew of black metal." - No Clean Singing
BEARSTORM formed in 2008 by metalheads with backgrounds in classical and jazz performance as well as country and old time music. The goal has always been to push outwards on the normal limits of writing, performing, and storytelling.

GIVE PRAISE RECORDS

A lot has changed for us in the past couple of years. We have grown up a lot, and still strive to provide the best in grind, powerviolence, crust and genres along those lines. We have so much planned in the upcoming months and just wanted to check-in with everyone.

We now have a ‘Official’ text logo that will be taking over, we are easing into using it, so you may see the other logos but eventually the new one will be taking over. We hope this gives the image that we are moving forward.

These next few months will bring more cassette releases, more exclusive hats, and way more releases, as well as working with several new bands we have never worked with before. We also hope to provide more videos and banners for our newer releases to hit the social media streams with.

One major change, we have undergone, is we are working with Grand Sounds Promotion to hopefully bring more music to everyone around – maybe some people that may miss it, will pick it up this time around.

We hope to work even more closely with our distributors (MVD and Ebullition) to hit the stores and distros with all of our titles. We are also working very closely with Karasu Killer in Brazil / South America to be the official distributor for Give Praise in South America.

We have also updated our Label / News site and our Mailorder store to make it easy to check around and follow-up on news and new releases.

In addition to all of this, we are taking on two new projects:

Noise Reduction – We ran a print magazine a year or so ago, and did 3 issues, since then we noticed the spike of internet blogs and news sites – They really only seem to cover 4 bands and 3 labels, and that was it. We have started Noise Reduction to hopefully spread the coverage a bit further.
http://www.noisereduction-zine.com

Absurd Grind – This will be a blog based on posting Bandcamp and Digital downloads – With 100% approval from the band or label, or linked back to Bandcamp.
http://www.absurdgrind.net

Thanks so much for the continued support and we could not do any of this without you! We are a family run and independent business.
I know there is a lot of talk about websites, blogs, online presences – We still try to get out to as many shows as we can. The local support is very small here, so the internet helps us out a lot to get the word and releases out.

Take some time to support your local labels, bands, stores, tours.

Keep checking all of our sites and network, as we will be posting new stuff all the time and have a ton of new releases in the works!

– Paul

HE RIFF WHICH MADE YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GUITAR IS?
I shit you not, it was most likely "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" By Butthole Surfers. I remember playing that song on the Guitar Hero II set up at best buy, then getting Guitar Hero II soon after, then learning to play guitar right after.

WHAT IS THE FIRST RIFF YOU LEARNED TO PLAY?
Stairway To Heaven by Led Zepelin.

YOUR TOP THREE METAL RIFFERS ARE?
Josh Middleton - Sylosis
Muhammad Suicmez - Necrophagist
Dimebag Darrell - Pantera

WHO IS THE MASTER OF THE RIFF?
Toni Iommi considering he is the reason that riffs are life.

THE RIFF WHICH IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE IS?
I have to summarize my entire life in one riff? Probably "What A Horrible Night to Have a Curse" by The Black Dahlia Murder.

THE RIFF YOU WISH YOU WROTE IS?
"Everything Went Black" by The Black Dahlia Murder.

THE WORST METAL RIFF EVER IS?
 Anything Emmure writes.

RIFF FOR RIFF YOUR FIVE FAVOURITE ALBUMS ARE?
Sylosis - Edge of the Earth
Sylosis - Dormant Heart
The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal
Soilwork - The Living Infinite
Necrophagist - Epitaph

A NON METALHEAD ASKS YOU WHAT DOES METAL SOUND LIKE, THE RIFF YOU PLAY THEM IS?
"Black Valor" by The Black Dahlia Murder

THE RIFF YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL IS?
The acoustic interlude to "Alias" In Flames

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT RIFFS ANYWAY?
Riffs are almost like food: there's the food you love, the food you like, the food you can eat, and the food that you'd vomit from the sight of. That's what makes riffs so great. Diversity. Everyone is going to like something and hate something else.

Maybe a riff from the french rock band Téléphone when I was a child.

WHAT IS THE FIRST RIFF YOU LEARNED TO PLAY?
Smoke on the water.

YOUR TOP THREE METAL RIFFERS ARE?
As a bassist I'll say Cliff Burton, Greg Christian (Testament) and Henkka Seppälä (Children of Bodom).

WHO IS THE MASTER OF THE RIFF?
The great old one Lemmy Kilmister?

THE RIFF WHICH IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE IS?
Maybe a riff from Bob Marley... without marijuana! Cause I'm a very quiet and cool guy beyond the stage!

THE RIFF YOU WISH YOU WROTE IS?
The riff of Master of Puppet,  for sure!

THE WORST METAL RIFF EVER IS?
The fucking boring riff of Warriors of the world by Manowar!

RIFF FOR RIFF YOUR FIVE FAVOURITE ALBUMS ARE?
Ride the Lightning (Metallica), Hate Crew Deathroll (Children of Bodom), Sacrament (Lamb of God), Devil's Ground (Primal Fear), First Strike Still Deadly (Testament).

One or two riffs from Creeping Death.

THE RIFF YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL IS?
Orion by Metallica to lead me to the stars.

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT RIFFS ANYWAY?
Metal riffs help me to expulse all my agressivity. In the worst moment of my life, they helped me to feel better when all around me had lost any taste. They are the miracle drug which make my life better!

You read it here first! Marquee Records have delved into the album crypts and are emerging with speed metal classic: Abattoir Vicious Attack.

Los Angeles in the mid 1980’s will always be remembered for its heyday of the Sunset Strip music scene. But a fierce LA band by the name of Abattoir also made a definite impression in their own right. The big break came when they released the track 'Screams From The Grave', featuring John Cyriis who would later join Agent Steel, via Metal Blade Records compilation series Metal Massacre IV. A local radio DJ soon placed the song on regular rotation during his weekly show, 'The Mighty Metal Hour' on KMET, and from there the band's career skyrocketed. Abattoir went from playing to crowds of 150 to 600 plus, well beyond many club capacities.

Spearheaded by guitarists Mark ‘The Shark’ Caro and Juan Garcia`s heavy bone-crushing riffs, the fierce rhythmic backbone of drummer Robert Wayne, bassist Mel Sanches and topped off by the blood-curdling screams of new vocalist Steve Gaines, Abattoir set out to follow up on their marginal success and record their first demo on a $3,000 budget. The finished effort was appropriately titled, Vicious Attack, and renowned metal label Combat Records, home to Megadeth, Possessed and Exodus, and a label that would go on to sign metal greats such as Death and Nuclear Assault, loved it so much they offered to press and release it without any further enhancements (other than omitting Garcia and Wayne from the album's credits who had since moved on, and instead displaying a photo of the new line-up completed by guitarist Danny Oliverio and drummer Danny Anaya, later of MX Machine).

Abattoir quickly gained widespread acclaim for both the album and their energetic, and at times unpredictable, live performances. The band soon graced the pages of national metal magazines such as Rip, Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Metal Forces furthering the band`s indelible reputation. The Vicious Attack album sold exceptionally well for an indie label debut and helped set the standards for many with its raw speed metal and street-level aggression. Some records you can walk away from unscathed, but this one leaves its mark.
30 years later, having been originally released in 1985, Marquee Records are planning a reissue of the classic debut on 22nd June 2015.

UK epic doom metal band Desolate Pathway are delighted to announce a guest guitarist for their upcoming album: none other than Kostas Salomidis of Greek stalwarts Sorrows Path. The new material comes off the back of last year’s Valley Of The King, which garnered praise from both sides of the pond. Brutiful Metal Radio declared that “Desolate Pathway have done what many bands in this genre fail to do and have made an album that early Candlemass would be proud of."

Guitarist Vince Hempstead commented: “We would like to announce with honour that Kostas Salomidis from the amazing Greek Doom band Sorrows Path has recorded 2 guest guitar solos for our 2nd album planned for early 2016. Last week, Kostas recorded the guitar solos at Fragile Studios in Athens with producer Vangelis Yalamas, and the results are amazing. A great way to connect with our Greek mythology-based new recordings.

The band are also due to hit the road several times this year. Dates are as follows:

Jun 18th: The Cave, Addlestone, Surrey, w/ Hagstone & Famyne
Aug 29th: Power and Glory Festival, Hatfield w/ Stampede, Savage, Martyr, Sacrilege, Lord Volture, Toledo Steel, Salem, Dealer and more
Aug 30th: The Carlisle, Hastings, w/ Lord Volture & Toledo Steel
Sept 19th: The Carlisle, Hastings w/ Famyne
Oct 31st: Fest of Hades, Wakefield w/ Hamerex, Kaine, Aonia, Promethium and more.
Nov 13th: The Haunt, Brighton, w/ Temperance, Seventh Sin & Proscenium*
Nov 14th: The Anvil, Bournemouth, w/ Ded Orse, Bitter Divide & Seventh Sin*
Nov 28th: The Unicorn, London w/ Sir Admiral Cloudesley Shovell

* A Black Phoenix Rising Promotions special

Bio
Having formed in April 2014, Desolate Pathway bring together their love of traditional and retro doom bands such as Candlemass, Cirith Ungol and Solitude Aeternus, as well as ideas drawn from epic fantasy such as Lord Of The RingsA Song Of Ice And Fire and the Vikings TV series. Channeling these into their début album Valley Of The King, the band has been met with great success and praise. Among the high-scoring reviews and top-notch gig offers, one of the standout unique moments is an appearance on iFood.tv’s Brutally Delicious program, a heavy metal cooking show hosted by Bruce Moore.

THE RIFF WHICH MADE YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GUITAR IS?

Metallica – Breadfan off their Garage Inc. Album! I didn’t know by then this was actually a cover version from Budgie’s original version! I just heard the speed and the heaviness mixed with these high-attack guitars and knew my goal: to be able to play this!

WHAT IS THE FIRST RIFF YOU LEARNED TO PLAY?

This might have been Metallica – Some Kind of Monster or Rammstein – Du hast. I don’t remember exactly which one was first. Rammsteins “Sehnsucht” was at least my first metal album. They were growing huge back then!

YOUR TOP THREE METAL RIFFERS ARE?

Very very difficult! There are tons of great riffing in history of metal but I have to stick to my roots and choose between the classic thrash riffs I grew up with. This would be
Sepultura – Inner Self
Metallica – The Thing That Should Not Be
Exodus – And Then There Were None

WHO IS THE MASTER OF THE RIFF?

This would be Frank Anthony Iommi! You can’t deny he’s the riffmaster and invented not only the riff but metal in general.

THE RIFF WHICH IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE IS?

Anthrax – Be All, End All
So heavy!

THE RIFF YOU WISH YOU WROTE IS?

Black Sabbath – Symptom of the Universe
The heaviest of all and definitely the root of thrash metal!

THE WORST METAL RIFF EVER IS?

Sorry guys, but Deep Purple – Smoke on the Water would be my choice! They’ve got so many amazing songs I still can’t believe why it’s always this song you hear when someone’s playing Deep Purple. It get annoying at least for me.

RIFF FOR RIFF YOUR FIVE FAVOURITE ALBUMS ARE?

Anthrax – Among The Living
Coroner – Mental Vortex
Megadeth – Rust in Peace
Pantera – Cowboys From Hell
Sepultura - Arise

A NON METALHEAD ASKS YOU WHAT DOES METAL SOUND LIKE, THE RIFF YOU PLAY THEM IS?

Iron Maiden – Be Quick Or Be Dead
Fast, heavy, classic!

THE RIFF YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL IS?

Metallica – The Call of Ktulu
Because it sounds depressed as fuck!

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT RIFFS ANYWAY?

It rips your heart through your ears and gives you chills down your spine. And then you feel like: Damn, I’ve got to get this feeling again! And then you listen it again. And then you’re like: Damn, how do they do that? I’ve got to practise this! And after playing it for the next five days you’re like: Alright, let’s write an even better riff. RIGHT NOW!!! – and he was never seen again…
