FOR THIS WEEKS IN THE THE RIFF WE TRUST WE PUT THE ALL IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO SWITZERLAND'S VERY OWN RIFF MACHINE  DRIVEN UNDER.

WHAT IS THE FIRST RIFF YOU LEARNED TO PLAY?
Due to I’m a huge fan of metallica was one of my first riff Enter Sandman, because it’s not
so difficult and back then it was possible to play =)

YOUR TOP THREE METAL RIFFERS ARE?
These three guitar players are untouchable and there is noone, who is better than them.

First: Steve Vai, he’s the sickest one

Second: Dimebag Darrell next to his powerful sound he’s the real shredder.

Third: Phil Campbell, his style of guitar playing and grooving is increddible..

WHO IS THE MASTER OF THE RIFF?
Me, haha just a fucking joke.. there are a lot of very awesome guitar players in the world, but the master of the riff is Steve Vai

THE RIFF WHICH IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE IS?
Hells wrath from Pantera it’s straight in your face

THE RIFF YOU WISH YOU WROTE IS?
Smoke on the water, then I am millionaire now =) Everybody knows that riff.

THE WORST METAL RIFF EVER IS?
I don’t knOW if it exists the worst metal riff… Maybe it exists the worst genre and this is Schlager, so

I think the worst riff comes from Helene Fischer =)

RIFF FOR RIFF YOUR FIVE FAVOURITE ALBUMS ARE?
There are a lot of albums, wich one pretty cool.. Here are five of my best albums:

Exodus Tempo of the Damned

Pantera Vulgar Display of Power

Metallica and Justice for all

Anthrax Among the living

Machine Head Through the ashes of Empires

But there are a lot more..

A NON METALHEAD ASKS YOU WHAT DOES METAL SOUND LIKE, THE RIFF YOU PLAY THEM IS?

Kick-Ass Heavy-Thrash-Riff

THE RIFF YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL IS?
The best riff in the world..with the pick of destiny..

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT RIFFS ANYWAY?
Guitar sound is the best sound..

Out of print for years and in high demand all those years, Heidens Hart Records are proud to finally bring this album back on the shelves. Even though it was only the second release from Heimdalls Wacht, back in 2006, the album exploded from the underground and many of the tracks have grown out to become semi-legendary tracks. "Die Tränen des alten Wächters" and "Weißes Pferd auf rotem Grund" have been part of the regular setlist for many years "Weltenbrand" is a very private and personal song for many people, and when played live recently for the first times, the audience was in awe upon every performance. "Des Nordens Stern" is of course a classic hymne for the band that should need no introduction. This reissue will finally be out this month (December 2015). Over an hour of pure antichristian pagan black metal, filled with mourning and anger.

Please note: no remaster, no bonus tracks, same artwork, just as the band and we want it.

Absolutus are a Belgian band shattering the shelter of the unconscious since 2003. Their lyrical content deals primarily with nihilism, metaphysical journeys, eerie experiences and psychology, inspired by writers such as E.M. Cioran and F. Nietzsche.
Starting out as a traditional black metal entity, appearing out of the nothingness with "Ostendit quam nihil sumus", released in 2005 by Goatowarex (Lifelover, Nachtmysium, Mortifera, Urfaust, Austere, ...)
Their absolution shifted on the highly anticipated second album "Pugnare in iis quae obtinere non possis", towards a more aesthetical and experimental approach. This album is in every aspect a highly recommended and truly monumental journey showing much more diversity compared with the debut album, with morbid and violent atmosphere breathing through the complex songs and dark interludes.
Summoned in the the city of dirt and corruption, Brussels, at Blackout studio with help of Neraath and Phorgath from Enthroned horde, expect a massive and devastating monolith of album. Fanatics of new Abigor, Blut Aus Nord, Antaeaus as well as more modern acts like Deathspell Omega and Svartidauði, take heed!

“Once eerie radiance and material presence are required, Cloud and Abyss will join hands to vomit uncelestial particles.”

This week we put the all important questions to Jordan Rosser who deals in his own brand of killer rapid fire, razor sharp, thrash riffs with his band EXHORTATION!

THE RIFF WHICH MADE YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GUITAR IS?

As lame as it sounds it was the song "Oildale" by Korn that made me want to play the guitar. It was raw and it just sounded angry.

WHAT IS THE FIRST RIFF YOU LEARNED TO PLAY?

Like many guitar players, the first riff I learned was Smoke on the water.

YOUR TOP THREE METAL RIFFERS ARE?

Gary Holt of Exodus
Mille Petrozza of Kreator
David Sanchez of Havok

WHO IS THE MASTER OF THE RIFF?

Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath

THE RIFF WHICH IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFE IS?

The opening riff in Holy Wars by Megadeth

THE RIFF YOU WISH YOU WROTE IS?

Enter Sandman

THE WORST METAL RIFF EVER IS?

Anything by Babymetal

RIFF FOR RIFF YOUR FIVE FAVOURITE ALBUMS ARE?

Enter the Grave - Evile
Deathless - Revocation
Blood in Blood out - Exodus
Time is up - Havok
Waking into Nightmares - Warbringer

A NON METALHEAD ASKS YOU WHAT DOES METAL SOUND LIKE, THE RIFF YOU PLAY THEM IS?

Dark Eternal Night by Dream Theater

THE RIFF YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL IS?

Cemetery Gates by Pantera

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT RIFFS ANYWAY?

They are the biggest cog in the machine that is the metal genre. They are the piece that adds the aggression and edge to the sound that makes metal what it is, without the riff, there would be no metal.

Genre: Thrash Metal Country: USA
In Death We Trust cover art

Obscure Oracle is a diversely influenced thrash metal band hailing from the Lone Star State. The band was formed by guitarist Danny David. His former experience as a member and songwriter for Demonstruction helped influence the unique sound of the band. Due to Danny previously working with vocalist Rusty Bartholomeo in a different band, he called for Rusty to be the lead vocalist and write the lyrical content for the band.

For their first album, “Roots of Existence,” Obscure Oracle combined progressive metal, thrash metal, and death metal to create the album’s hybrid sound. Through their years of progression, from their first gig in 2012 to now, Obscure Oracle’s sound has shifted into pure thrash metal. The shift can be heard in their 2015 EP, “In Death We Trust.”

Diavolos - You Lived Now Die

Worshipping at the throne of 80's proto black/death metal this is the first wave in all it's filth and frenzied riffage. It calls to mind the beginnings of so many great bands without sounding old or jaded but rather a welcome breath of fresh metallic air for the headbanger in all of us. So you get a healthy dose of Show No Mercy and Scream Bloody Gore but with the rawness of black metal pioneers like Bulldozer along with early Sodom and Destrustion throwen in for good measure just in case proceedings weren't evil and dark enough. This is an air guitar, headbanging fist waving in the air kind of album which gets the blood pumpin'. I have to say the artwork is a great take on Exciter's "Heavy Metal Manic" which adds a nice touch along with song titles such as Baptized in Vomit which is clearly a homage to Death's classic Baptized in Blood. The album closes with the song "Death Metal" which would do Possessed themselves proud. Diavolos have capatured the dark spirit of 80's metal within You Lived You Die's insane burst of riff vomit.

Third Storm - Logo

THIRD STORM was formed in 1986 in Uppsala, Sweden by four people who shared the same passion for the
underground extreme music and at that time was very much influenced by acts like BATHORY, VENOM,
HELLHAMMER etc. The music scene in Sweden back then was very glam oriented (more than most European
countries) and extreme metal bands were seen as talentless bums. The band didn’t care and tried their best to be
the most extreme, the members were just kids in the 14-16 age range when they started, and how well you played
didn’t matter as long you could make noise with your instrument.

THIRD STORM performed about a dozen shows at that time, the overall crazy performance and the satanic image
was very over the top and therefore not taken seriously, so the band was laughed at for two years, ‘til they finally
split up in 1988. But the past decade or so people have seriously been taken interest in the past and found about
this obscure strange band who is more known for their name than their music.

The stuff the band has recorded in the 80s is rare as hell, a couple of recordings were made just for the band
themselves and very few copies were spread back in the old days of tape trading. The music back then was very
primitive and raw, like other black metal bands at that time the music was thrash influenced but with a very noisy
touch. The band used blast beats in 86 and not many could grasp that kind of noise back then. The vocals were
insane screams and lyrics were written in a way the south american bands were used to in the 80’s. They didn’t even
take any band photos and didn’t think or care in the terms of promotion, photos, flyers, studios etc. They just
wanted to bang their heads and make noise.

THIRD STORM’s new line up consists of two original members, vocalist Heval Bozarslan (SARCASM) and guitarist
Jimmy Eriksson. Guitarist David Eriksson (ANGUISH), bassist Daniel Ekeroth (USURPRESS/IRON LAMB) and drummer
Johan Ericsson joined forces to complete the black circle and set the tone for the black/doom metal the band just
presented as the “Tarîtîya Me” EP released in september this year on Dark Descent Records. The dark spirit of THIRD
STORM today is the same as in 1986, but the musical direction is breaking new grounds and new sinister elements
are added. The music is doomier, darker and ridden with an atmosphere that will scare the hell out of people. A 13
minutes music video was made for the song “Oath/Nava Agir” and the response has so far been more than great but
this EP is just a foretaste of what will come, the band just announced that their first full length (hopefully released
sometime 2016) will be a concept album and part one of a trilogy.

Hyaena” is the new, long-waited album of Progressive Death Metal legends Sadist. Produced and mixed byTommy Talamanca at Nadir Music Studios in Genova, Italy, “Hyaena” is a compelling mix of the band's traditional Death Metal and Progressive influences with ethnic and tribal sounds, centered around an intriguing concept about one of Africa's most fascinating predators, whose legend says is ridden by the Devil. This is without any doubt the band's most mature, diverse and experimental album to date, in which every detail has been meticulously looked after, musically and visually (the beautiful front cover by painter Luca Orecchia and booklet design by Manuel Del Bono are both top notch). A videoclip for the first single “The Lonely Mountain” was launched with the album’s release. “Hyaena” features a very special guest appearance by percussionist Jean N’Diaye, who will also follow the band on stage on the next tour.

FACEBOOK »Necrodium is a Finnish Brutal Death Metal band founded 2006. The band started as a trio: Henkka (guitar), Wallu (bass & vocals) and Ake (drums). With that line-up, Necrodium recorded its first demo "Demo 07".

In 2008 Ake was kicked out and Kim joined in as a new drummer. The band rehearsed actively at that time, played some gigs and recorded three demo tapes: "Postmortal Vengeance" (2008), "Altar of Condemned" (2009) and "To Oblivion" (2012). For having more power and diversity to Necrodium's sound, Henkka started to do backing vocals after "Altar"-demo.

The line-up lasted until the end of the year 2012 when Wallu decided to leave the band and Linda joined in as a vocalist and Mika as a bass player. With Mika, Necrodium did few gigs and recorded its first album, Remnants (Breaking Wheel Productions, 2015). Mika left the band in january 2015 and Kaj replaced him right after.

Necrodium has done several gigs since 2009 with bands like Cerebral Bore, Tools of Torture, Desecration, Lithuria, Atretic Intestine, Cumbeast, Abhordium and Obscure Burial.

Lin Morbid - Visceral Vomiting
Henkka Disembowelment - Shredding and Screaming
